Changes for Jamaican Electricians installing Solar Panels

Until recently, electricians operating in Jamaica were free to install solar panels at will.

This is about to change according to the Jamaica Licensed Electricians Association (JLEA). From now on, an approval should be granted broken down in 2 steps.

First, Jamaican electricians will have to be approved by the appropriate engineer of Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) and after that, an inspection will take place and the certificate will be handed.

JLEA supports that it is risky and cost inefficient to individually install solar panels without the appropriate guidance, whereas some electricians tend to say that this is another way to charge them.
