In Scotland, Electrical Safety Council together with charities and organizations have promoted a better electrical safety in private rented sectors.
A mandatory five yearly check has been called by ESC for all registered electrician. This check will be for appliances supplied and installation of electrical wires.
In an article posted on H&V News, 70% of domestic fires are caused by electricity and tenants at private sectors are at greater risk of electrical shock and fires than the other homeowners.
Phil Buckle, ESC director general has believed that electrical safety should be a vital requirement and should not put any unnecessary burden to landlords.
