Hawaii’s Contractors Licensing Board proposes Changes about Solar Installers

There is a buzz going on in various states about changing permissions on who will be able to install solar.

However, this article will be of interest only in electricians operating in Hawaii and in the solar section.

Solar Industry Magazine and specifically Nora Calley, wrote about the proposed change to eliminate the solar power systems contractor (C-60 license), thus permitting only electrical contractors (C-13) to install solar. These 2 categories of electricians until now, work together to install solar.

Nothing has been decided yet, the topic will be discussed on October 15 2013 at their meeting.

It is argued that reducing the licenses able to install solar, will inevitably raise the prices and thus enabling less people to install them and still be beneficial.
